ANNOUNCEMENTS – WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2008 - “E” DAY

 

ALL:  For the month of October – if you are free at 12 Noon on Wednesday’s please join us in the chapel to pray the rosary.

 

ALL:  Breaking Barriers is holding their first meeting for members Thursday October 16th at 3:00 pm in the library.  For more information speak to officers Andrew Rader, Oscar Contreras, Joe Borsellino or Rashad Davis. Breaking Barriers goal is to create a safe and welcoming environment for ALL students.

 

SENIORS:  Fairfield University will be here for interviews on November 13.  Spots are very limited.  See Mrs. Martineau if you would like an appointment.

 

CELTIC CLUB:  The Celtic Club is looking for soccer players who wish to participate in Copa del Prep.  We are also collecting money for t-shirts.  The cost is $10.  Money and Copa del Prep sign-ups should see Ms. McElroy in E-204.

 

HISTORY CINEMA:  History Cinema presents Alfred Hitchcock’s, Foreign Correspondent, a story of WWII, Thursday, 10/16, at 3:00 pm in B-216.

 

WALKATHON, OCTOBER 24:  Remember to bring in your Walkathon envelopes with our name on it.  $80 joins the walk and carnival and $100 gets electronics gear raffle entry and a week of dress down.  One hundred percent at $100 gets a homeroom an extra week of dress down.  WALK THE WALK, SON!

 

WALKATHON:  The first day of Walkathon dress down begins this Friday.  All students who bring in their $100 envelopes by Thursday morning can start the week of dress down.  Many thanks to Mr. Morris and Mr. DeAngelo.

 

DUNK TANK – FESTIVAL:  Are you ready for a great celebration?  Join us on Friday, October 24th for the Walkathon carnival.  There will be a faculty dunk tank and great games and a BBQ after our 5K walk along the Hudson River.

 

VEGETARIAN STUDENTS:  Any students who wish a vegetarian alternative at the Walkathon BBQ should sign up at the main office by this Friday.

 

WALKATHON:  Don’t forget to bring in your envelope with $100 by Thursday and begin dress down the very next day!  The Walk and Carnival are next week.  There will be a great barbeque, too!!!!  Walk the Walk!!

 

The Computer Club:  We will meet Thursday 10/16 after school in the Link Lab.

 

LITURGICAL CHOIR:  We will practice after school on Thursday with Mr. Harrold.  Please attend.  We will be preparing for Friday’s Mass.

 

Italian Club:  A reminder that our next event of our October festivities will take place Thursday, Oct. 16th at 3:00 in E-306:  we will watch Prisoners in Paradise, a documentary of Italian POWs held captive in the United States during World War II.  Also, please pick up a permission slip if interested in attending Italian Mass at Our Lady of Pompeii Parish, Greenwich Village, and this Sunday, Oct. 19th. 

 

FILIPINO CLUB:  Meeting will be on Thursday at 3:15 pm in Mr. Galano’s room.  Details to follow.

 

Culinary Club:   Baking pans from open mic night can be picked up in Ms. Annetta’s office, H-302B. 

 

The culinary club will be attending a culinary workshop on December 4th. If you are interested, please see Ms. Annetta or senior Justin Guerra-Sarreal for more information. There are only a few spaces remaining.   The next culinary club meeting will be    Wednesday, October 22 at 3Pm in room B317. 

 

Metropolitan Plunge 2008: Immersion trip reunion/reflection for the students who participated in the Metropolitan Plunge this summer, takes place today at 2:50 pm in M-307.  Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

 

History Club Mtg:  We will meet on Monday at 3:00 pm in B-216.

 

Mandatory Model UN Mtg:  For all Horace Mann conference goers, Thursday Oct. 23, 3:00 pm in B-216.  Those who missed this weeks’ meeting MUST CHECK IN with Mr. Cunneen or you are NOT ALLOWED TO GO to Horace Mann!  (Alex Mosa, Gary McCann, John Ng & Rolf Mazo this means you).

 

Science Club--Science Fair:  Friday at 3:00 pm in B-314, Dr. Robinson.   General meeting for all students who signed up or are interested in doing a Science Fair project. You need to have selected at least an area (bio, chem, physics, ecology, etc.) and a faculty mentor. Any interested faculty can come too.  We will talk about deadlines and registration requirements. We will attempt to answer any questions we can. Look on the internet for Science Fair links in your subject for lots of ideas and other stuff.

 

Italian Club:  A brief meeting at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16th (before viewing the documentary) for those interested in playing soccer in the Copa del Prep tournament (club members only!)

 

SOPHOMORES:  All Christian Service forms are due today.  Hand them in to Mr. Sekel by 3:00 pm in M-307.  Students going on weekend immersion trips do not have to submit the form.

 

FRENCH CLUB:  Meeting on Thursday at 3:00 pm in e-301.  We need a sufficient number of people to attend to discuss the future of the club.  If you want to play for the Copa del Prep soccer team, you must attend.

 

CHESS TEAM:  We will meet at 3:00 pm on Thursday, 10/16, in Mr. McCarthy’s library room.  All are welcome.

 

MARAUDER NATION:  Meeting on Thursday at 3:00 pm.

 

SOPHOMORES:  On Monday, 10/21, there will be a short meeting at 12:30 pm in the College Placement office on the 2nd floor of Mulry Hall.  Any sophomores interested in being Prep’s representative to the NJ HOBY (Hugh O’Brien Youth Conference) meeting in the spring, is invited to attend.

 

STUDENT COUNCIL:  There will be a student council meeting on Thursday at 7:45 am in Mr. Keating’s room.
